In Matthew 10:16, Jesus instructs His disciples that because He is sending them out “as sheep in the midst of wolves,” they need to be “wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” I think this instruction applies well to the work of apologetics, corresponding with Peter’s command to always be prepared to make a defense but do so with gentleness and respect.
